Beyond Strength: Why the Softness of Black Women Must Be Witnessed
Apr 23, 2026
In this episode of Deciding to Soar: Living Life Your Own Way, I discuss something we rarely name when we discuss Black women.
SOFTNESS!
We talk about our strength. We praise our resilience. We admire our leadership and excellence.
But we rarely talk about our softness.
And I believe our softness is sacred.
In this episode, I share why witnessing the softness of Black women is not about fragility, but about restoration. It’s about nervous system regulation. It’s about soul care. It’s about remembering that we were never meant to survive on strength alone.
I walk through five reasons why witnessing softness matters:
- Softness settles what survival has kept activated
- Softness soothes what pressure has bruised
- Softness sustains us beyond performance
- Softness strengthens our growth
- Softness stabilizes the spaces we lead and love
If you are a Black woman who is tired of being praised for endurance but unseen in tenderness — this episode is for you.
If you love or lead Black women — this episode is for you.
If you are a woman or a member of a marginalized community, this episode is for you.
