Years ago I heard a phrase I’ve never forgotten: it’s not about the competence you don’t have — it’s about the company you keep. And the older I get, the truer it becomes. None of us becomes our best selves by ourselves. As the old African saying goes, everyone needs an extra set of eyes to rise.

In this unscripted, unedited episode, I share the 5 types of people we all need around us before making a major life decision — such as retirement, marriage, divorce, a move, a career change, or a whole new chapter. You may find all five in one person (what a blessing), or you may need five different people. Either way, this is your invitation to take an honest inventory of your circle.

• The Intellect → the gift of CLARITY (facts, research, the full picture)

• The Insight → the gift of PERSPECTIVE (what’s really going on beneath the surface)

• The Imagination → the gift of POSSIBILITY (“who told you that?” “what else could be true?”)

• The Intuition → the gift of DISCERNMENT (the quiet knowing of what’s right)

• The Intermediary → the gift of CONNECTION (the bridge-builder who opens doors)

My hope for you is that your life looks like a garden of possibility — not what I call “gutter living,” where we shrink ourselves to fit our current circumstances. Your future does not have to be a continuation of your past.
