How many times have you been told to wait?

Wait until you have more experience. Wait until the timing is right. Wait until you’re older. Wait until you’re ready.

In this unscripted, unedited episode, I want to share a truth that changed the trajectory of my life: sometimes “wait” is wisdom — but sometimes “wait” is simply a socially acceptable way for people to tell you no. And I don’t ever want their N-O to override what you K-N-O-W.

When I tried to break into the fitness industry in the 1990s, no gym would hire me. I was qualified, accredited, and passionate — but I didn’t fit their narrow image of what “fit” was supposed to look like. So I stopped asking for permission and asked myself a different question: Where can I serve? That one question moved me from rejection to teaching in churches, salons, parks, and community centers — and eventually onto Good Morning America.
